Torch of Excellence Scholar Athlete of the Year

Madera Community College’s Female Scholar Athlete of the Year- Isabel Rodriguez. Isabel is a graduate of Madera High School and will be a sophomore for the Mountain Lions next fall where she will continue playing soccer and pursuing her education. She is an excellent student and earned a 4.0 GPA this past spring semester. In addition to her academic accomplishments, she is an accomplished leader on the women’s soccer team and was named team captain by her coaches and teammates. In this role she capitalized on her strengths which were boundless optimism and positivity. Her coaches described her as having an “ability to bring her teammates together.” She continuously encouraged her peers and cheered-on their successes throughout the year.

She hopes to transfer to Fresno State to continue her academic and athletic pursuits while continuing to successfully balance her passion for soccer and her commitment to education. She aspires to complete medical school and pursue a career working with children as a pediatric cardiologist and to become a leader in her field.
